Inserting this update directly from Facebook. Fistula treatment update:
I went to Mayo for a second opinion, and they impressed me in a number of ways.
First, the Neurologist (Dr. Lin, a Taiwanese lady) mentioned that she could not find MRI results.
"Advent noticed that it was a fistula and decided on an angiogram instead," I said.
"But -- we need to know whether there's a cause for the fistula in the soft tissue of your brain, or it might recur," she said.
That made so much sense to me that I decided to go with Mayo instantly.
Next, Dr. Lin said something that stuck with me: "I am interested in the overall health of your brain."
It's the first time I've ever heard something like that. The Advent approach to heath is more like being a bad mechanic -- get in, fix one issue, close the hood. This felt more systemic, like maybe they did care about how my whole body worked together.
(I can share more on Dr. Lin's connection between fibroids, hormonal imbalance, anemia, and fistulas if anyone is interested in hearing it!)
Anyway, my schedule is a bit changed. I'll be going back and forth to Jacksonville in the upcoming weeks for more testing and consultation. I will have a plan for treatment by October.
