Jan. 19th, 2025 10:57 am * Proposal turned in for my very first Tolkien conference! I am looking forward to the Mereth Aderthad, and am crossing my fingers that my health will allow it.
— stuff to do: get airline tickets and a hotel room!
* I’m cracking my knuckles and getting ready for instadrabbling today. Yesterday I couldn’t because of some parenting — my kid had a bad work day, and as a result needed a lot of chatting over tea.
— There was also some comfort baking. I’m working on more Rugelach. Yesterday’s batch of dough was a little too wet and sticky, which made the end result crunchier than I’d wanted. But the filling is turning out excellently.
* Health: I’ve been having very weird blood sugar regulation, and I’m wondering if it’s a result of my brain fistula sitting on some regulatory part of my brain. ORRRRR Christmas encouraged me to eat a whole lot of sugar and my body just asked me to have a break from it.
— As a result I’ve been measuring my blood sugar daily, and cutting down on carbs and sugar as much as possible.
— This is a pain, but also why Rugelach is so good, yes there’s processed flour, but the sweetness mostly comes from the dried dates and not from any sugar in the dough.
— And I was relieved to learn that rice isn’t that bad for me, lol.
* Eventually I need to make the presentation for the proposal, and read the rest of the books! Note to self: check out Surprised by Joy from the library…
